Yay themed ads are back. Google has been playing around with some themed ads during the holidays. Basically holiday colors and pictures. Below is an example of the Halloween themed ads and how to add themed ads to your site. Google also added colors to there referral buttons.

If you havnt signed up for Google support this site by clicking the affiliate button on the sidebar. Then take advantage of our Blogging Guide and Tools.

1. Log in to your account at www.google.com/adsense.
2. Go to the My Account tab.
3. On the Account Settings page, scroll down to the ‘Ad Type Preferences’ section and click ‘Edit.’
4. Depending on your preference, check or uncheck the box next to ‘Enable themed ad units when available.’
5. Click ‘Save changes.’ Your selection will apply to all your AdSense ad units.

A Tools section has been added to the site. Its a list of links I think you guys will find usefull when Blogging.

With all these ad companys now I have been getting pretty confused with which ones I can use at the same time. Currently I use Chitika, Adbrite, and adsense. I would like to use yahoo but I cant do it without violating the rules.
Read on while I hash through this.

Google AdSense: “Google AdSense program policy does not permit Google ads to be published on the same web page as other contextually-targeted ads. To be more specific, we do not permit Google ads to be published on pages within the same domain as the ads of another contextually-targeted ad program.”

—–So basically if you use Google you cant use yahoo, Chitika or adbrite contextually on the domain. So you have to use Chitika targeted towards products and only use adbrite when you use direct ads and not network ads. You can also only use three Adsense ads per a page.

Yahoo: “While you may use Publisher Network ads on the same Web site as Google or Chitika ads, our guidelines do not allow you to install Publisher Network ads on the same pages of your Web site as other companies’ ads. However, we do not limit the number of ads you can place on a particular page.”

—–So you can use any ad on the same domain but it has to be on a different page. Unlike Adsense you can use as many yahoo ads as you want.

There are some ad revolving scripts out there but im not sure they are “allowed.” Especially since Google says no more contextualy ads and Yahoo says only Yahoo on a page.

1. How to choose the default tab shown.
Normally the Product tab is shown. I wanted a way for readers to see the great price of the item. I did this by adding the code below.

i. Wordpress Chitika Plugin: Once you activate the plugin, you will see a new button on your Quicktags toolbar. The new button is eMiniMall. Click it to insert the eMiniMall tag.

9. The background color can now be changed. The option for that is now in the control. But if existing users want to hack the code, they can do use using a line like this:

10. How to specify a channel name?
Code Hacking: For existing users who have already deployed code, you can add this line to the code (anywhere after the line with ch_client but before the line with /script). You need to replace the XXXX below with a meaningul name like “Home page in the morning” or “Home and Garden Category”.
